Dehradun: The Uttarakhand administration is advancing an extensive master blueprint to transform the sacred Badrinath Dham into a “Spiritual Smart Hill Town”, with the objective of giving pilgrims a profoundly memorable and contemporary yet culturally connected experience.
The comprehensive presentation of the Badrinath Master Plan was presented to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami at the Secretariat on Wednesday by officials from the tourism department.
Goals: A Fusion of Devotion, Progress, and Environment
Tourism Secretary Dheeraj Garbyal stated the central vision of the plan is clear yet impactful—every pilgrim arriving in Badrinath, whether from India or overseas, should leave with an unforgettable spiritual journey.
He stressed that although upgraded facilities will be introduced, the spiritual character and holiness of the shrine will remain fully preserved.
Chief Minister Dhami also instructed authorities to ensure that cultural heritage and environmental conservation are completely incorporated into the initiative.
Dev Darshani Point to Provide First Sacred View
Among the major attractions of the proposal is the creation of Dev Darshani Point, intended to offer pilgrims their first stunning glimpse of Badrinath Dham.
Badrinarayan Chowk to Emerge as Spiritual Center
The Badrinarayan Chowk will be redesigned as a major spiritual and cultural community destination.
It will feature thoughtfully planned seating sections, relaxation areas, and open gathering spaces where devotees can unwind, connect, and absorb the spiritual environment of the town.
Art, Traditions & Heritage to Be Showcased
The proposal carries a strong emphasis on regional art and traditions:
Walls of the ISBT will display murals inspired by regional folk traditions and devotional subjects
Vasudha Vatika will combine greenery, spirituality, and Uttarakhand’s cultural aesthetics
Landscapes will be planned to appear visually attractive and culturally symbolic
These additions aim to keep the area’s heritage vibrant within a modern framework.
Sacred Emblems of Lord Vishnu to Shape the Town
The master blueprint will prominently showcase symbols linked with Lord Vishnu, including:
- Panchajanya Shankh (conch)
- Kaumodaki Gada (mace)
- Sudarshan Chakra
- Vaikunth Dwar (gateway to heaven)
In addition, creative depictions inspired by the Ramayana and Mahabharata, including Lord Ram and Lord Krishna, will strengthen the spiritual character of the town.
Grand Aarti Experience at Diya Aarti Ghat
The Diya Aarti Ghat will be carefully developed to deliver a divine evening atmosphere for pilgrims.
Modern Facilities with Sustainable Planning
The broader redevelopment will also include:
- Enhanced pedestrian walkways
- Advanced lighting infrastructure
- Improved seating facilities
- Easy-to-read visitor signage
- Eco-conscious beautification and street planning
The objective is to provide convenience for pilgrims while preserving ecological harmony.
