Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh government has declared a significant relief for wheat farmers by pushing the procurement deadline from May 23 to May 28 for all farmers who had already reserved slots to sell their produce.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav made the announcement on May 20, saying that the government remains fully dedicated to farmer welfare and to ensuring smooth procurement operations despite logistical hurdles.
Farmers Faced Delays Despite Slot Bookings
As per the Chief Minister, several farmers informed the administration that even after securing procurement slots, long queues and operational delays were stopping timely wheat sales at procurement centres.
Responding to these concerns, the state government decided that all farmers who had successfully booked slots by May 23 would now be permitted to sell their wheat until May 28.
Speaking to the media, Dr. Mohan Yadav said the extension reflects the government’s pro-farmer stance during what he described as the “Year of Farmers’ Welfare.”
Madhya Pradesh Set to Procure Record 100 Lakh Metric Tonnes of Wheat
The Chief Minister said Madhya Pradesh is on course to achieve record wheat procurement this year.
According to him, the state had procured around 77 lakh metric tonnes of wheat last year, while procurement this year is projected to reach nearly 100 lakh metric tonnes.
He further stated that Madhya Pradesh has procured wheat from the highest number of farmers in the country this season.
“So far, we have already procured 91 lakh metric tonnes of wheat,” he mentioned.
Government Assures MSP of ₹2,625 Per Quintal
Dr. Mohan Yadav reiterated that the government will continue procuring wheat at ₹2,625 per quintal through designated procurement centres.
He appealed to farmers not to worry and assured them that the administration was putting in place all necessary arrangements for procurement, transport, and storage.
CM Highlights Global and Logistical Challenges
The Chief Minister also acknowledged several operational difficulties impacting procurement this year, including:
Storage capacity limitations
Transportation and logistics bottlenecks
Procurement and supply of gunny bags
Adverse weather conditions
Increased pressure due to record arrivals
Despite these challenges, he said the government had expanded storage facilities and continued procurement operations without interruption.
Govt Reiterates Focus on Farmer Welfare
Dr. Mohan Yadav said the state government, under the leadership of Narendra Modi, remains committed to the welfare of farmers, women, youth, and economically weaker sections.
He assured farmers that every eligible farmer with a valid slot booking would be able to sell wheat under the procurement drive.
