Lucknow/New Delhi: In a major boost for Uttar Pradesh’s administrative framework, the process for promoting Provincial Civil Services (PCS) officers to the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) cadre has advanced another step. The Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) meeting for the selection year 2025 was conducted at the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) headquarters in New Delhi on June 10, clearing the path for the induction of 33 PCS officers into the prestigious IAS cadre.
The promotions are anticipated to benefit officers from the 2010, 2011 and 2012 batches of the Uttar Pradesh PCS. Official notifications are likely to be released by the end of June following scrutiny of service records, Annual Confidential Reports (ACRs), and other qualifying requirements.
DPC Meeting Conducted at UPSC Headquarters
The Departmental Promotion Committee meeting was organized at the UPSC headquarters in New Delhi to examine eligible PCS officers for induction into the IAS cadre against vacancies allotted to Uttar Pradesh under the promotion quota.
Senior officials from the Uttar Pradesh government took part in the proceedings.

Centre Allots 33 IAS Promotion Posts to Uttar Pradesh
For the selection year 2025, the Central Government has assigned 33 vacancies to Uttar Pradesh under the IAS promotion quota.
The availability of a comparatively high number of vacancies has created opportunities not only for officers of the 2010 and 2011 batches but also for certain senior officers from the 2012 batch.
Officials stated that the number of available positions is greater than in earlier years, allowing a wider pool of officers to be evaluated for induction into the IAS cadre.
2010 Batch Officers Expected to Receive Promotion
All eligible officers from the 2010 PCS batch are likely to be inducted into the IAS cadre.

With 21 officers from the 2011 batch and eight from the 2010 batch, a total of 29 promotions are expected to be filled from these two batches alone.
Opportunity Emerges for 2012 Batch Officers
Since the combined strength of eligible officers from the 2010 and 2011 batches totals 29, the remaining four vacancies are likely to be filled by senior officers from the 2012 PCS batch.
Officials indicated that the unusually large number of vacancies has enabled select officers from the 2012 batch to enter the zone of consideration sooner than expected.
The final list of promoted officers will be determined after a comprehensive review of service records and vigilance clearances.

Following the DPC’s recommendations, the next stage involves:

Approval by competent authorities
After completion of these formalities, the official notification for induction into the IAS cadre is expected to be released by the end of June 2026.
