CHANDIGARH: Haryana’s bureaucracy has experienced frequent reshuffles over the past year, with around 55 transfer orders issued between August 2025 and August 2026. The latest rejig has once again highlighted the frequent movement of senior officials, after an IAS officer was transferred twice within 24 hours. IAS officer Pradeep Dahiya was on August 6 shifted from his post as Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Gurugram (MCG), and appointed Deputy Commissioner, Rohtak, according to an order uploaded on the Haryana Chief Secretary portal. However, within 24 hours, the government overturned the decision and retained Dahiya as MCG Commissioner, Gurugram. The reversal came as part of a major bureaucratic reshuffle on August 7, in which 17 senior IAS officers and seven HCS officers — 24 officials in all — were transferred or assigned new responsibilities. The latest instance is not the first time that postings have been altered within a day. In June this year, three bureaucrats saw their assignments modified within 24 hours. Prabhjot Singh was transferred from Director General, Technical Education, to Director General, State Transport, on June 25. The following day, he was shifted again and appointed DG Environment and Secretary, Environment. Similarly, IFS officer S Narayanan was transferred from Higher Education to Environment on June 25, only to be moved back to Higher Education on June 26. IAS officer Virender Kumar Dahiya was also transferred on June 25 from Environment/State Transport to Higher/Technical Education. His orders were amended the next day and he was assigned State Transport. Pradeep Dahiya, meanwhile, had been appointed MCG Commissioner on May 6, 2025. His proposed stint as DC Rohtak lasted just a day before the government restored his earlier assignment. The August 7 reshuffle also saw additional charges being given to senior bureaucrats. G Anupama was given additional charge of Youth Empowerment and Entrepreneurship, while C G Rajini Kaanthan was assigned Finance, the Central Committee of Examinations and Haryana Medical Education and Research. A review of government transfer orders indicates that the reshuffles have remained frequent since August 2025. There were two transfer orders in August 2025, two in September, five in October and one in November. December witnessed six orders. In January 2026, five transfer orders were issued, followed by around five in February, two in March, four in April, five each in May and June, seven in July, and four in August so far.

This comes even as the state government notified the Haryana Model Online Transfer Policy, 2026, on June 25, which seeks to ensure a transparent and merit-based mechanism for transfers of regular employees and enhance administrative efficiency. However, the policy excludes All India Services and Haryana Civil Services (Executive Branch) and Allied Services from its purview.
