According to Punjab Police, the enhanced platform includes 14 new features designed to simplify engagement between citizens and the police department.

Phillaur (Punjab): In a major move towards advancing citizen-focused policing and digital governance, Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav, a 1992-batch IPS officer, on Wednesday inaugurated the upgraded Saanjh Citizen Portal at the Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Police Academy in Phillaur.

The launch represents a significant technological advancement in the delivery of police services to residents across Punjab. Along with the portal inauguration, the DGP also flagged off a fleet of 93 electric scooters for women police personnel working under the Punjab Police Mahila Mitra initiative and Women Help Desks.

The dual initiatives demonstrate Punjab Police’s ongoing commitment to utilizing technology, enhancing public service delivery, and reinforcing women-focused policing systems throughout the state.

Upgraded Saanjh Portal Adds 14 New Features

The redesigned Saanjh Citizen Portal has been developed to make police services more reachable, transparent and effective for citizens.

According to Punjab Police, the enhanced platform introduces 14 new features intended to simplify interactions between citizens and the police department.

Among the key additions is the implementation of Aadhaar-enabled eKYC (Electronic Know Your Customer) verification, which is expected to greatly streamline multiple police verification services.

The portal also introduces dedicated facilities for senior citizens, allowing easier access to police support and welfare-related services.

The digital platform is expected to minimize paperwork, accelerate response times and support online delivery of various citizen services.

Focus on Digital Transformation in Policing

The introduction of the upgraded portal is part of Punjab Police’s wider initiative to modernize public service delivery through technology-driven solutions.

By incorporating digital verification systems and online service frameworks, the department aims to improve convenience for citizens while ensuring quicker processing of applications and requests.

Officials believe that technology-enabled policing can boost transparency, reinforce accountability and lessen the need for physical visits to police offices for routine services.

The Saanjh initiative has long functioned as a crucial interface between Punjab Police and the public, and the latest enhancement is expected to further improve its effectiveness.

DGP Flags Off 93 Electric Scooters for Women Police Personnel

In another significant initiative, DGP Gaurav Yadav flagged off a fleet of 93 electric scooters that will be assigned to women police personnel managing Punjab Police Mahila Mitra units and Women Help Desks across the state.

The move is intended to strengthen mobility, expand outreach and enable women police personnel to respond more efficiently to public grievances and women-related concerns.

The electric vehicles are expected to support officers in conducting field visits, awareness drives and community engagement activities more effectively.

Senior Officers Attend Launch Event

The event was attended by several senior Punjab Police officers, including:

Special DGP, Community Affairs Division, Gurpreet Kaur Deo

Senior officers of Punjab Police

Officials associated with the Saanjh programme

Representatives from women policing initiatives

The presence of senior leadership highlighted the importance attached to citizen services and community-oriented policing within the state police force.

Strengthening Women-Centric Policing

Punjab Police has been broadening its focus on women’s safety and support services through dedicated Mahila Mitra units and Women Help Desks.

The deployment of electric scooters is expected to reinforce these initiatives by providing greater operational mobility to women police personnel working on matters related to women’s safety, awareness and assistance.

Officials believe enhanced mobility will help women officers maintain stronger community connections and facilitate faster responses to complaints.

Citizen Services Expected to Become More Effective

With Aadhaar-enabled eKYC, senior citizen services and multiple new digital features, the upgraded Saanjh Portal is expected to make several police services more accessible and efficient.

The platform is likely to benefit citizens seeking police verifications and other public services by reducing procedural delays and improving accessibility.

Punjab Police officials described the initiative as another step toward creating a modern, technology-enabled and citizen-focused policing ecosystem in the state.

Punjab Police Continues Modernisation Drive

The launch of the upgraded Saanjh Citizen Portal and the induction of electric scooters form part of Punjab Police’s continuing modernization efforts.

Over the years, the force has steadily adopted digital technologies, community engagement models and specialized support mechanisms to enhance service delivery and strengthen public confidence.

With the latest enhancements, Punjab Police aims to further improve citizen convenience while increasing operational efficiency and responsiveness across the state.
